The
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in collaboration with Global Green
Growth Institute (GGGI) and Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX), organized a
capacity-building workshop under the theme “Empowering Green Growth in
Thailand: The Role of Thematic Bonds and Transition Finance,” to enhance
knowledge and understanding of sustainability-themed bonds and transition
finance for government and private sectors, financial institutions and
stakeholders in the capital market. On this occasion, Mr. Tayakorn Jitrakuldhacha,
SEC Director of the Bond Department, gave a presentation on “SEC’s Role in
Fostering Growth in Thematic Bonds and Transition Finance,” highlighting the
capital market’s crucial role in directing capital towards businesses that
focus on environmental protection and sustainability. The SEC also prioritizes
enhancing the capital market ecosystem for sustainability by developing
disclosure rules, promoting financial products for sustainability and
transition, encouraging investment in sustainable initiatives, and supporting
private sector participation in advancing climate change goals and national
sustainability.
Additionally,
the seminar featured special talks by international experts including Mr. Paul
Chahine from Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Mr. Eugene Wong from Sustainable
Finance Institute Asia (SFIA), Ms. Shirley Lui from S&P Global Ratings, and
Ms. Sirinart Amornthum, Senior Vice President, Research and Development
Department, the Thai Bond Market Association (ThaiBMA). The main focuses
included sustainable development of global capital markets, the principles and
key components of Green Bonds, Social Bonds, Sustainability Bonds (GSSB) and
Sustainability-Linked Bonds (SLB). The seminar also covered the concept of
Transition Finance, which plays a crucial role in supporting businesses in high
greenhouse gas-emitting industries (Hard-to-Abate Sectors) to transition toward
sustainability. The event took place in Bangkok during 13 -14
February 2025.
