SEC, SET and intermediaries exercise a capital market cyber drill

Wednesday 25 October 2017 | No. 100 / 2017

Bangkok, 25 October 2017 ? The SEC in cooperation with securities companies, asset management companies and the Stock Exchange of Thailand Group exercised a joint cyber drill to raise the industry's awareness of the importance of cybersecurity plan, work system stability and data protection.

Co-organized by the SEC and the regulated entities, the cyber drill activities were conducted by experts from the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA). More than 160 delegates from 53 organizations or 77 percent of the total number of the regulated entities participated in the drill during 17-19 October 2017 at the SEC Building.

The cyber drill was part of the joint action plan since the establishment of the Thai Capital Market CERT or TCM-CERT, which aims to upgrade the Thai capital market's capacity in handling cyber threats. The activities include stakeholder training, cybersecurity planning and cyber drills. The whole process is expected to help the involving parties lay out their own appropriate and effective cybersecurity plans.

SEC Secretary-General Rapee Sucharitakul said: ?Cyber threats are evolving very fast and becoming more complicated. Preventive measures alone may not be enough. It is therefore necessary to put in place an effective handling procedure. Each organization should establish a clear procedure and cyber threat handling guidelines. We hope this drill will be a beginning for capital market business operators to make necessary preparation for handling potential cyber threats in advance.
