Bangkok, 31 October 2018 – The SEC is advising the public to be cautious about investment solicitation by the following, separate entities which are not approved or licensed by the SEC – investglobalmanagement.com, iqoption.com, and “Pimnara Poonsawat” and “Befaii Suwinya” Facebook accounts.
Following the tips given by Thai and foreign investors in Thailand and the SEC’s further investigation, it has been found that the Facebook page Invest Global and the website: investglobalmanagement.com show messages soliciting foreigners in Thailand to invest in securities such as stocks, mutual funds and structured notes on a trading platform, and the investors who use the service are subject to an annual consulting fee.
In the case of website: www.iqoption.com, which is a foreign juristic person without local contact information, investors are solicited to invest in derivatives in the form of Contract for Difference (CFD) with several underlyings such as gold, crude oil and stock index. This is a speculation for the difference between the current value of an the underlyings without physical asset delivery. The solicitation messages are translated into Thai and other languages.
In the case of the Facebook accounts Pimnara Poonsawat and Befaii Suwinya, the public is solicited to send money to Pimnara, who will use the money to trade securities and share the capital gains with the investors.
The SEC hereby notifies that investglobalmanagement.com, iqoption.com and the aforementioned Facebook accounts are not licensed securities or derivatives business operators in Thailand. Investors are therefore advised to be careful with any investment solicitation of such entities because the activities therewith may not be protected by the laws enforced by the SEC. In the case of the Facebook accounts, the SEC has instructed the accounts to end the solicitation on the social media platform.
On a separate note, the SEC has received a tip that a foreign company incorporated on the British Virgin Island solicits foreign investors in Thailand to invest in the High Performance Development Limited (HDPL) fund, which is managed by a person who has been named in a complaint filed by a foreign regulator on account of managing investment without approval.
If approached with a solicitation to invest in securities or derivatives, investors are advised to examine beforehand whether the solicitor is a legally approved or registered entity to prevent potential damage. The SEC list of licensed entities is available under the “License Check” banner, while the list of business operators not licensed by the SEC is available under the “Investor Alert List” on the SEC website at www.sec.or.th.
