SEC prepares to revise rules to supervise private funds for operating flexibility

Bangkok, Thursday 16 August 2018 - SEC is conducting a public hearing on the regulatory revision for private fund management business to improve flexibility in business operation while maintaining standards of business which putting investors first.

SEC is opening for public comments on the regulations to supervise private funds as the business operators have developed a variety of services to satisfy customers. Therefore, SEC intends to amend its rules to be more flexible without high operating costs, and cope with more diverse patterns of business operations. This revision focuses on the principle-based regulations, instead of fixed details, that cover several issues such as personnel readiness, investment management, receiving and delivery of funds’ assets and risk management.

SEC has studied the supervision in other countries and has requested for initial comments from the business sector in order to ensure this regulatory revision be appropriate for private fund management business in the Thai capital markets.
