SEC chief shares vision for balancing the roles as regulator and developer of capital and digital asset markets

Bangkok, 10 October 2023 – The Secretary-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has outlined her perspective and vision for managing the regulatory agency, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance between the roles of supervising and developing both capital and digital asset markets. The SEC is also committed to building competitiveness for all sectors in alignment with international standards and quality, and fostering cooperation with all parties involved to achieve common goals.

At the SEC Meets the Press session today, Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon shared her perspective and vision for leading the SEC organization after recently assuming office. “I have taken on a new role in a familiar organization and working environment, with the primary goal of leading the SEC as a regulatory agency that develops the capital market and supports economic growth. Under transparent and fair management in line with international standard good governance guidelines, we are building trust and confidence of in all parties involved, including stakeholders and market participants, through effective enforcement, clear and applicable regulations to enhance competitiveness of all sectors.” 

Furthermore, the SEC chief aims for the regulatory body to create and deliver value propositions to all sectors, leading the way towards enhanced capabilities and higher potential for all stakeholder groups. As for the SEC organization itself, it is important that the SEC team, as a change agent, embraces transition to change, creates awareness, supports and facilitates, and fosters engagement to ensure a smooth, effective and sustainable transition.

“Most importantly, the SEC’s hands-on approach to our duties in various areas will reflect our commitment to independence, transparency and fairness for all. This is how we build trust and confidence. Personally, I would be pleased and thankful for public monitoring, examination, and evaluation of my work as the SEC Secretary-General. All feedbacks and suggestions are welcomed as part of our mutual efforts going forward,” she added.
