SEC supports SET policy to encourage fundraising of medium-sized Thai and large foreign companies in line with the National Strategy

Friday 26 May 2023 | No. 85 / 2023

Bangkok, 26 May 2023 – The SEC revealed that, with a view to encouraging fundraising of businesses under the government-promoted Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Model in line with the National Strategy, the SEC Board had approved the revised SET listing rules for ordinary shares based upon market capitalization, with the adjustments extending to cover mid-sized Thai companies that generate operating revenue from the targeted industries as well as large foreign companies that contribute significant economic value to the country’s economy.

With the objective to support and promote an ongoing access to capital by businesses in the government-promoted industries, the SEC Board Meeting No.9/2566 passed a resolution, approving SET rules and regulations on the listing requirements for ordinary shares based on market capitalization which are extended to cover those businesses in the government-supported target industries. Under the revised rules, medium-sized Thai companies as well as foreign large companies that create significant economic value to Thailand’s economy, are eligible to apply for the listing on the SET or MAI, subject to the specified criteria, thus removing the former regulatory restrictions that the eligible businesses are limited only to those Board of Investment (BoI)-promoted.

The revisions will enhance flexibility and coverage of the Exchange’s listing criteria for general companies which formerly took into account primarily the companies’ track records on net profit from operation. With these adjustments in market capitalization approach in share listing, Thai medium-sized firms operating in the targeted industries under the BCG model as well as large foreign firms that create economic benefits to the country will be offered additional channels for access to capital through the capital market, contributing to further economic growth. The SET will put into force these new regulations soon.
