Ms. Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol, SEC Secretary-General, said: “As cybersecurity attacks can take place at any moment, coming from those using loopholes in technology for the attacks, corporate executives in the capital market sector should therefore sufficiently provide necessary resources and focus on coordination among agencies, especially exchanging information necessary for prevention and surveillance through information sharing to keep pace with cybersecurity threats. In addition, all service users and investors should be aware of the use of technology and the threats that may come with it, by following and inquiring about cybersecurity measures and data security from your service providers, including cooperating with them to ensure that your data and assets are safe.”
In addition, the SEC Secretary- General participated in a discussion under the topic of “Cybersecurity in Finance and Banking to Protect Thai People from Becoming Victims of Cybercriminals” on 18 February 2023. The discussion focused on cyber-threats, problems, obstacles, process of legislation, policies, and oversight, including best practices to ensure that the critical information infrastructure (CII) of the financial, banking, and capital market sectors will remain secure and safe. The discussion was joined by Air Vice Marshal Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary General of the National Cyber Security Agency, and Khun Sirithida Phanomwan Na Ayudhya, Assistant Governor, Payment Systems Policy and Financial Technology Group, Bank of Thailand.
The SEC’s booth housed an exhibition providing knowledge about the SEC’s roles and mission to create confidence among investors using its services, by enhancing the ability to be prepared for and respond to cybersecurity threats (Cyber Resilience), the framework of oversight and interesting Cyber Resilience educational information. The SEC won three outstanding awards at the Prime Minister Awards: Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Awards 2022 event in 2022.
Thailand National Cyber Week 2023 was held to establish measures and mechanisms to develop the potential of CII agencies in the public and private sectors, educational institutions, scholars, researchers, professors, pupils, and students, and to provide an opportunity to interested persons to share knowledge and experience to raise awareness of cybersecurity and to enhance the capability as well as to build networks and potential for entrepreneurs in preventing and handling cybersecurity attacks to reduce damage to Thailand’s information infrastructure.
