Public hearing on self-regulatory organizations and organizations of capital market business operators

Monday 1 September 2014 | No. 123 / 2014

Bangkok, September 1, 2014 ? The SEC is seeking public comment on amendments to the Securities and Exchange Act B.E. 2535 (1992) to support the establishment of self-regulatory organizations (SROs) and organizations of capital market business operators. This aims at preparing Thai capital market?s infrastructure to be more responsive to global changes, enhance flexibility of supervisory structure that facilitates market innovation, and enable market practitioners? self-regulatory functions.

The proposed amendments will revoke all provisions on associations related to securities business currently linked to law relating to trade associations. In substitution for the revoked provisions, new provisions will be proposed to accommodate the formation and operation of SROs as well as organizations of capital market business operators. The roles and duties of organizations of capital market business operators will be closely similar to associations related to securities business. Additionally, the proposed amendments will also facilitate the transformation of existing associations to become organizations of capital market business operators.

The consultation paper is available on www.sec.or.th. Stakeholders and interested parties are welcome to submit comments through the website, facsimile at 0-2263-6332, 0-2695-9943 or email at kunpatu@sec.or.th or siriyod@sec.or.th until September 12, 2014.
