Thursday 30 October 2014 | No. 160 / 2014

Bangkok, October 30, 2014 ? The SEC was elected to be a member of International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) Board at the annual meeting of the IOSCO held in Brazil on September 28, 2014 as a representative of the IOSCO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee.

SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak said that this is a great chance for the SEC to contribute more to the work of the IOSCO.  Serving as the member of the IOSCO Board in 2014-2016, the SEC will take part in reviewing major securities regulatory issues with regulators of global financial centers, such as the USA, England, Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong.  In addition, the SEC also participates in Policy Committee on International Accounting, Auditing, and Disclosure Standards, the Policy Committee on Retail Investors, and most recently, the Growth and Emerging Market Steering Committee.

The SEC has placed importance and played active roles in various IOSCO projects and implementing the IOSCO principles and standards.  The SEC also received high recognition among regional members as chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (IOSCO APRC) during 2005-2008. Currently, the IOSCO has 200 member countries.

?Upon joining the IOSCO Board, the SEC will be representing the voices and real-case examples of emerging markets into policy considerations and recommendations of the IOSCO,? said Vorapol.
