Bangkok, November 5, 2015 ?The SEC is seeking public comments on the proposed relaxation to the rules governing investment policy of mutual funds offered for sale to accredited investors, i.e., institutional and high net worth investors, to enhance competitiveness of asset management companies and diversify choices of investment for investors with higher risk tolerance.
The draft revision aims to allow asset management companies to offer more diversified, complex types of mutual funds similar to those sold in foreign markets, and to introduce investors to more investment opportunities through various types of complex products.
The relaxation would allow mutual funds offered to accredited investors to invest in any types of financial instruments without company limit ratio, which has already been the case with hedge funds. Meanwhile, the investor qualifications would also be revised to ensure that only accredited investors with matching risk profiles would be eligible to invest in higher risk mutual funds.
The consultation paper is available at www.sec.or.th. Stakeholders and interested parties are welcome to submit comments through the website, or facsimile at 0-2695-4629 or email: puttikul@sec.or.th.
The public hearing ends on November 16, 2015.
