Bangkok, 4 November 2019 – The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Board reported its resolution on 30 October 2019 at the IOSCO Office in Madrid, announcing Thailand to be the host of the IOSCO Annual Meeting 2022.
SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee
Suwanmongkol said: “This great opportunity for the SEC to host the IOSCO Annual
Meeting for the first time in the history of the SEC since our establishment in
1992 is truly a remarkable milestone. Moreover, Thailand will be the host
country and chair the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) while the SEC
will also celebrate our 30th anniversary all in the same year in
2022.”
Hosting the IOSCO Annual Meeting will bring about multifold benefits to the
capital market and Thailand. For example, the SEC will have another forum to demonstrate
its capacity to be the leading capital market in the region and on global
forums while strengthening confidence of both Thai and foreign investors. This international
event will also be the venue to stimulate attentiveness and accumulate
knowledge of market personnel regarding developments in international capital
markets, promote academic opportunities and expand perspectives of such
personnel through global experts at seminar forums, increase the opportunity to
build networks with public and private sectors, promote tourism and the economy,
including the international conference and exhibition industry, and promote the
Thai culture and traditions.
In addition, this SEC’s
proposal to host this event is in line with the 20-year National Strategy in
the area of promoting competitiveness in trade and investment, and the Foreign Affairs
Masterplan regarding promotion of Thailand’s proactive role as a key player on
global forums and international cooperation.
The SEC submitted the
hosting proposal to IOSCO on 7 June 2019 in accordance with IOSCO criteria for
selecting the Annual Meeting host three years in advance. An average attendance
of the Annual Meeting is 600 persons from more than 225 capital market
regulators and relevant organizations from more than 140 member countries
around the world.
