Bangkok, 27 August 2019 – The SEC Thailand hosted the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (“ACMF”) Deputies’ Meeting to update the progresses of the ACMF’s initiatives , including the Roadmap for ASEAN Sustainable Capital Market, the assessment of the Philippines’ regulatory regime for ASEAN Collective Investment Scheme (ASEAN CIS) participation, and the preparation for the ACMF Chairs’ Meeting to be hosted by the SEC Thailand in October this year.
The ACMF Deputies’ Meeting was presided over by SEC Deputy
Secretary-General Sirivipa Supantanet, and attended by delegates from ASEAN
capital market regulators, the Asian Development Bank and the ASEAN Secretariat.
The meeting was held at the SEC Office Building on 23 August 2019.
The meeting was set to focus on updating further progresses of ACMF Working
Groups, with key topics on developing the Roadmap for ASEAN Sustainable Capital
Market initially drafted by the ACMF members to strengthen ASEAN capital
markets’ ecosystem for sustainable development which was in line with theme of
Thailand’s 2019 Chairmanship, “Advancing Partnership for
Sustainability”.
The ACMF Deputies’ Meeting also discussed on the possibility to accept the
Philippines as a new member of the ASEAN CIS to further promote cross-border
offering of funds within the region, to include Sukuk into the framework on
cross-border publication of research reports, and to update the progress on the
ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard Assessment whose results are expected for
announcement in early 2020. ACMF members also used this opportunity to share
experiences and pools of knowledge on digital asset oversight to prepare for
new developments in capital markets.
In addition, this Meeting discussed preparation for the upcoming
ACMF Chairs’ Meeting, which will be presided over by SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee
Suwanmongkol, as the ACMF Chairperson, in Phuket, Thailand on 2 October 2019.
