Bangkok, 24 June 2019 – SEC went to Khon Kaen on a site visit under SEC Caravan to Provincial Areas project to support the access to the capital market under the Thai capital market development plan which is driven in collaboration with the province, municipality, Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce, Khon Kaen Industry Council, the Society of Khonkaen Province Bank and relevant agencies.
On 24 June 2019, SEC Secretary-General Ruenvadee
Suwanmongkol, Sirivipa Supantanet and Paralee Sukonthaman, Deputy Secretaries-General,
and a group of SEC executives led the first caravan under the Caravan to
Provincial Areas project to Khon Kaen, as per the resolution of SEC Board
Meeting No. 6/2019 on 6 June 2019, which approved the establishment of SEC
Caravan to Provincial Areas project.
On this site visit, a meeting was held to
exchange opinions with Khon Kaen Governor Somsak Jangtrakul, Ph.D., who
graciously presided over the meeting. The meeting was also attended by
representatives from local authorities and the private sector, consisting of
the mayor of Khon Kaen Municipality, mayor of Tha Phra Municipality, Khon Kaen
Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Khon Kaen Industry Council Deputy Chairman, Society
of Khonkaen Province Bank Chairman, Khon Kaen City Development (KKTT) Co., Ltd.
and Khon Kaen Transit System Co., Ltd., at Khon Kaen City Hall. This is deemed
as a pilot project and is beneficial to the operation of SEC Caravan to Provincial
Areas project driven by and with the collaboration of the province and local
agencies concerned, and the major issues are concluded as follows:
1. demand side -- by focusing on
providing education about long-term savings and investment to the people in
Khon Kaen and urging employers to consider establishing a provident fund so
that employees will have money to spend after they retire from work and as
security for their families to enhance their quality of life;
2. supply side
-- to create awareness of small and medium-sized business operators and
community enterprises in fundraising efforts through the capital market to
encourage SME businesses to enter the capital market. In addition, a meeting
was held with Khon Kaen City Development (KKTT) Co., Ltd. to discuss about fundraising
for the Khon Kaen light rail transit system (LRT), the details of which will be
further discussed; and
3. to jointly develop SEC’s public network
and to raise the awareness of relevant laws.
SEC will consider preparing an operational plan
to accommodate the above-mentioned meeting and discussion by July this year.
