Bangkok, 9 January 2018 - SEC has launched SEC Application Programming Interface (SEC API) to enable smooth access, helping the private sector to further expand business and capital market data analysis starting with mutual funds and personal information which is licensed or approved in the capital market.
SEC Deputy Secretary-General
Tipsuda Thavaramara revealed that SEC has launched an automated data distribution system, or
SEC API, to enable easy access to SEC’s information or
third party information in possession of SEC and in a form that the computer can read
and readily process (machine readable data). Data can be obtained by means of
code-writing for direct data query. SEC anticipates that this information
service system will act as the information infrastructure for the financial sector
and capital market allowing the private sector to use it in business expansion and
capital market analysis, which is in line with the government's approach of
making big data freely available.
In the initial stage, SEC will provide two types
of information, which are information on licensee or have been approved in the capital
market and mutual fund information such as nature and characteristics of mutual
funds, fees and past performance. The dissemination of information via SEC API aims
to help increase service efficiency and promote new business models, for
instance the development of applications which enable investors to compare
information and performance of mutual funds, of which there are currently more
than 9,000 funds, or check whether any juristic person or person is properly
licensed or approved in the capital market.
By 2018 SEC aims to expand the scope of data
services to be more comprehensive with a view to be the information
infrastructure for the financial and capital markets to support rapid
technological change and promote new innovations, including research in the
capital market which will benefit investors by using the capital market as an
investment source for long-term financial security.

system improvement.
