Bangkok, 19 October 2018 – SEC is now seeking comments on the revision of the report form of information of mutual funds, private funds, provident funds, and the information of unit holders, all of which must be submitted to SEC for the more effective risk inspection regarding a wide and significant effect on the financial system and the economy. The revision is with the objective to provide measures for any possible events and also to launch a new channel of information via online submission for the convenience of business operators.
In recent times, investment management
companies are significant and connected to country’s economic system and have
been growing continuously. By the end of June 2018, the net asset value,
including the mutual funds, private funds, and provident funds, is approximately
7.08 trillion Thai baht, or about 44 percent in comparison to the overall GDP
of the country. Therefore, if there were any events leading to fluctuations in
the investment management business, a significant impact could produce an
effect on the overall financial system of the country.
SEC therefore needs to revise report forms in
order to have sufficient information to supervise the aforementioned risks and
to provide appropriate measures to respond to the case of such events, which
could immediately slow down or hinder the impact affecting the investors, the
capital market, and the country’s economy. This public hearing is the result
from the reasons thereof, which proposes the revision of the report forms of
the business providers, including the information of the mutual funds, private
funds, and provident funds, especially in regards of investment statuses,
strategies of funds, and the concentration of unit holders.
Furthermore, SEC will launch an online
submission channel for the convenience of the business providers rather than
the usual CD submission, as well as a mean to alleviate burdens and the costs
therefrom.
SEC has
published relevant documents regarding public hearing at www.sec.or.th/hearing.
Any interested parties can submit their comments and concerns via the website,
via fax 0-2263-6039 or 0-2263-6511, or via e-mail arthipha@sec.or.th or teerawut@sec.or.th until 19 November 2018.
