Bangkok, 30 November 2020 – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) held a meeting with the working group who is commissioned to develop training course on “Business and Human Rights for the Business Sector in the Capital Market”* to discuss the development of training course. It is an assigned mission in accordance with the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP Plan) Phase 1 (2019 – 2022), following the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), to assist listed companies integrate human rights into their business operation and disclose such undertaking in SEC Form 56-1 One Report by year 2022. During the meeting, the working group also endorsed the training course proposed by the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University.
The meeting was chaired by Sirivipa Supantanet,
SEC Deputy Secretary-General, along with distinguished members such
as Emeritus Professor Vitit Muntarbhorn, Associate Professor Thongthippa Wiriyaphan, Dr. Netithorn Praditsan,
Deputy Secretary of Global Compact Network Thailand (GCNT), and Pimpan Diskul Na
Ayudhya, Director of Thailand Responsible Business Network (TRBN). The working
group believes that this kind of training course will help the business
sector to seamlessly integrate human rights into their business
operations.
During the meeting, Assistant Professor
Dr. Parina Srivanit, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn
University, Advisor of the working group, and Head of the project of business and human rights
for business sector in the Thai capital market (Phase 1), presented the
proposed training course to the working group. The first part of the action
plan will start with a seminar within a small group of senior and
middle level executives to brainstorm ideas and gather information regarding
business practices under the framework of UNGPs and to
prepare guidelines for listed companies on how to disclose business
and human rights information in a single report (56-1 One
report). Moreover, there will be a forum for exchange of opinions called CEO
Dialogue which intended to create a policy commitment of the board of directors
and executives on cultivating the organizational culture and formulating corporate
policies that support the integration of human rights into business operations. In
the future, a training course “Business and Human Rights Course for Listed
Companies” will be provided for all listed companies.
In this regard,
the working group approved the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University, to
prepare and design the structure of the training courses and
seminars. Trainings for the listed companies are expected to start in
the first quarter of year 2021 onwards and without charges.
