The SEC Thailand hosts the 48th IOSCO Annual Meeting – a forum for substantive discussions and cooperation among global capital market regulators, followed by the SEC Thailand Public Conference

IOSCO members consist of global capital market regulators across over 100 jurisdictions, who gather annually to collectively deliberate on important ongoing issues related to global securities market regulations. This year marks the 48th IOSCO Annual Meeting, which the Securities and Exchange Commission, Thailand (SEC Thailand) is honoured to be the host for the first time.

The meeting will be held on 13-15th June 2023 at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World. In conjunction, the SEC Thailand will also hold the SEC Thailand Public Conference on 16th June 2023 under the theme “Envisioning the next horizon: A way towards connected future of capital markets”. Securities regulators, financial experts, associations, and industry participants will be joining a series of panels. More than 400 participants are expected to attend the event.

 About the SEC Thailand

The Securities and Exchange Commission, Thailand is an independent regulator established according to the Securities and Exchange Act B.E. 2535 on 16 May 1992. The SEC Thailand has the centralized roles for supervision and development of both primary and secondary markets. This structure also facilitated issuance of new financial instruments and put in place effective regulations to ensure compliance, fairness, and prevent exploitation of stakeholders. As the market became more developed, new products were introduced and three laws were promulgated to support continuing development of instruments and transactions, namely the Derivatives Act B.E. 2546 (2003), the Trust for Transactions in Capital Market B.E. 2550 (2007), the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E.2561 (2018), respectively.

The SEC Thailand has been an active ordinary member since 1992 and a signatory to the IOSCO MMoU. As an ordinary member, the SEC Thailand is a member of the Presidents’ Committee, the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC), and the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC). The SEC Thailand has also participated in several IOSCO’s working groups. The SEC Thailand was elected Chairman of the IOSCO APRC Committee during 2005-2008. This reflects the significance of the Thai capital market in the region as well as the recognition of the SEC Thailand’s international roles and collaboration for sharing of information, opinions, and experiences in different areas.
